Tuomas Tiainen (b. 1980) is an artist and a comics publisher. His works make frequent references to pop culture and vary in technique from vivid ink slash to colourful collage. His subjects are drawn from the world of underground comics: skewed and absurd landscapes that ultimately are a critique of modern culture.
Tiainen’s swaying characters are alienated from their environment, and the society depicted in his works does not always feel viable. Lumpy architecture, faceless creatures, concrete squares, steep staircases and maze-like spaces surround wanderers who seem lost. That which is terrible is also fun.
