Tuukka Haapaniemi to lead Tampere Vocal Music Festival

Bass singer Tuukka Haapaniemi has been appointed artistic director of the Tampere Vocal Music Festival in 2019, when the festival will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Contest for Vocal Ensembles.

“I am very excited to begin planning for this anniversary year. I have been to the Tampere Vocal Music Festival many times, performing in various ensembles, giving workshops and enjoying listening to performances. This will be an opportunity for me to share my views as a vocal ensemble professional and a choir enthusiast. I hope to be involved in many things and to create new places for people to meet,” says Haapaniemi about his appointment.

Haapaniemi has a Bachelor’s degree in music education and is currently a fee-paid teacher of vocal ensemble singing at the Sibelius Academy. He is a founding member of the vocal ensemble Club for Five, and he has appeared as a bass soloist with the Finnish Radio Chamber Choir, the YL Male Choir, the Chorus Cathedralis Aboensis and the Sibelius Academy Vocal Ensemble. He also composes and arranges music for vocal ensembles.

The next Tampere Vocal Music Festival will take place on 5–9 June 2019. Held every two years, the festival brings together usually some 50 choirs and 15 vocal ensembles from all around the world. The programme is built around the International Chorus Review and the Contest for Vocal Ensembles and includes concerts and workshops.
